Denise Carrier Wharton (she/her) has been caring for the patients of Health + Hospital since graduating from CUNY Hunter College in 1994. She started her career as a Registered Nurse at Bellevue Hospital and then at Metropolitan Hospital. While completing her Master’s Degree in Midwifery at SUNY Downstate College of Health Related Professions, she worked at the Elizabeth Seton Childbearing Center.
Denise started as a Midwife at North Central Bronx Hospital in 2001 and became Director of Midwifery in 2021. She is a frequent guest lecturer at SUNY Downstate and UPenn and is a preceptor to Midwifery Students as well as Medical and Physician Assistant students and is a recipient of the American College of Nurse-Midwives Preceptor Award.
Her interests outside of the hospital include raising her amazing daughter, singing in a choir and international health, having had the opportunity to spend a few weeks in Rwanda precepting new midwives.
